Candoro Marble Building Recognized with Three Awards

Nearly one year has elapsed since the Aslan Foundation completed the restoration of the Candoro Marble Building in March 2021. With this milestone approaching, we are proud to reflect on the past year's accomplishments, including three awards recognizing the work of Sanders Pace Architecture and Tennessee Marble Company. Their collaboration with the Aslan Foundation helped to make the restoration a stunning success.

  • In May of 2021, Knox Heritage awarded the Aslan Foundation and Sanders Pace Architecture an East Tennessee Preservation Award for their work restoring the historic building.

  • In November, the building was honored by the American Institute of Architects East Tennessee 2021 Design Awards, which recognize and promote design excellence throughout the East Tennessee region. Jury Chair Miguel Rivera of Miro Rivera Architects presented Sanders Pace Architecture with a Citation Award for the Candoro Marble Building.

  • Most recently, on February 1, 2022, the Natural Stone Institute awarded John Cierech of Tennessee Marble Company the Craftsman of the Year award for achievements including work on the Candoro Marble Building restoration project. The award honors one craftsperson who has physically performed outstanding stone fabrication and installation as well as serving as a leader and mentor in the field. Cierech's work was instrumental in restoring the Candoro Marble Building. To learn more about the process, click here.
